I believe with all my heart that there is no finer staff anywhere than the one at Front Street UMC Playschool. To help you know them better I have asked them each to write a short self-description, telling you about their backgrounds and their feelings about working at Front Street.

STAFF WORKING WITH THREE YEAR OLDS

Betsy Reeves

(Miss Betsy teaches three year olds on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a BS degree in Dance Education. She taught kindergarten in the Alamance Burlington School System prior to the birth of her third child. She has worked at playschool since 2001.)

I have been at Front Street either as a mother or a teacher for many years and I have enjoyed every minute. Prior to teaching at Front Street I taught in a variety of settings, including kindergarten, high school, and dance. I currently teach ballet at Arts Live Studios and am a member of Moving Liturgy, a liturgical dance company which travels performing and teaching at churches, concerts, and conferences.

I am a native of Mt Airy, NC, though I have lived in Burlington with my husband Paul long enough to raise 2 sons, and we are currently working on raising a third. Nic, our oldest, is a graduate student at NC State; Alec is a sophomore at the University of SC, and our youngest, Ike, is a 9 year old who is a 4th grader at Smith Elementary.

Jennifer Thornton

(Miss Jennifer teaches two year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and assists Miss Betsy in working with three year olds on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.)

Hi. My name is Jennifer Thornton. I am Mommy to two sons and have a wonderful husband and a silly little doggie at home. This is my fourth year here at Front Street Playschool. Wow! Time flies when you are having fun!! Currently I teach a two year old class and assist in one of our three year old classes. I just love Front Street Playschool. I love my co-workers, the children and their families, and everything our program stands for. There is just no happier place in town. Thank you for sharing your most precious asset with us.

Annette Jackson

(Miss Annette teaches two classes of three year olds, one on Monday/Wednesday/Friday and one on Tuesday/Thursday. She came to Front Street in 2008.)

I was born in Elizabeth City, NC, because it was the nearest hospital to Manteo, North Carolina where I grew up on the Outer Banks. I played basketball at Manteo High School, which led to a scholarship to Elon College. I attended Alamance Community College toward an Early Childhood Degree until I married a United Methodist Preacher (Jerry A. Jackson) and moved with him to Elizabeth City and served two churches. We have two daughters, Doris,27 & Jerianne,23.

After leaving Elizabeth City, we moved to Roxboro and then back to Currituck Courthouse, where I helped start a Preschool (4 years). Then we moved to Onslow County, where I worked in the Northwoods United Methodist Preschool for 7 years. We moved to Goldsboro before coming to Burlington, where I started teaching at Front Street Play School.

I treat every child in my class like they were my own. I love to watch them smile and discover new ways of learning. Front Street Playschool is my second family. It is a great place to work.

I have a certificate in Early Childhood and 14 years of preschool experience. I am a diehard NC State fan, a NASCAR fan and I love Scrapbooking and doing anything with my girls.

Jennifer Thompson

(Miss Jennifer assists Annette Jackson in both the Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday three year old classes.)

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, an only child. I have been married to my husband, Ed, for 10 wonderful years and we have 8 year old twins together and 2 family dogs (don't tell them they are dogs). I have lived in Burlington for about 4 1/2 years. My family has been part of the Front Street Playschool family since we arrived here.

My kids came to FS for the 4s and I subbed so much that year, I guess Barbara thought it would be cheaper just to hire me (plus I LOVED it here)!! I came with a customer service background, working in Hotel Management. You would be surprised at how closely that relates to what I do now. Also, I had belonged to, and was on the board of a Mother of Multiples group when my children were younger. For 2 years I was the "Activities Director" for a club of over 50 women and their twins (or more). Lots of good experience there!! Since coming to FS I have also completed the NC Early Childhood Credentials.

I consider myself to be very "crafty", energetic and patient...and a great match to Annette (love her). I treasure my time with your children as well as the time my job allows me to spend with my own. I loved Front Street Playschool for my kids and love it just as much for me!
