Staff

I believe with all my heart that there is no finer staff anywhere than the one at Front Street UMC Playschool. To help you know them better I have asked them each to write a short self-description, telling you about their backgrounds and their feelings about working at Front Street.

(Miss Marcy teaches four year olds 5 mornings a week.)

My love for children, and the excitement of having fun while learning, has kept me teaching at Front Street for 18 years. I am married for 31 years to my strength, Ken, and have three beautiful girls: Karoline, who is married to Dan McPeake and living in Lynchburg, Virginia; Katrina, a student at ECU; and Kimberly, a kindergarten teacher at B. Everett Jordan here in Alamance County.

I am a proud Elon University graduate, and love to attend workshops and conferences to continue my excitement for children's education. I love my school family!

I have lived in Burlington most of my life. I married my childhood sweetheart (Mike) many years ago. We have three fantastic children together. We have a daughter, Bri, and two sons, Dylan and Chance. Our family also includes a very feisty Westie named Java, a parakeet named Gabbie and many aquatic animals in three aquariums (too many to list).

I was a stay at home mom for many years with my own children. I have always felt that God lead me to Front Street Playschool. I am a very patient, energetic, flexible person. This comes in very handy working with the four year olds! I have worked with Ms. Marcy since I came to Front Street six years ago. While working at Front Street I have completed the NC Early Childhood Credential.

Front Street is a wonderful place to work; we are family, not just co-workers. We care about each other just like we care about your children. We nurture and grow each and every day at Front Street. As a parent and a teaching assistant, I have always thought that playschool is the stepping stone that builds the foundation for your child's future education. Each day is filled with fun, knowledge, love and lots of hugs. I can't imagine a more wonderful place for your child, or a better place to work. At Front Street we are truly a family.

Jill Fisher

Jill Fisher

Jill Fisher

(Before taking a teaching position this year Miss Jill was the secretary for our Parent Board, and last year was the room representative in her older daughter's class. She has a BA in Elementary Education and has Kindergarten certification. She has her MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to becoming a mommy she taught in the Alamance Burlington School System. She will be teaching four year olds on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.)

I am the mommy of two girls, Nevy –age 4 1/2 and Nora – age 1 1/2. My husband, Willy, grew up here in Burlington, but I am from the Columbus, Ohio area. In addition to teaching elementary school, I have also taught swimming lessons and coached swim teams, working with all ages. I love to read, travel, play and watch sports, volunteer, and be with my family. I think that working with preschoolers is such a joy and blessing because they are full of so much energy and enthusiasm for everything life has to offer! I feel very strongly about the philosophy at Front Street Playschool, and am looking forward to working with all of the families!

(Miss Tonya will be assisting Jill Fisher in one of the Monday/Wednesday/Friday four year old classes.)

My name is Tonya Joyner and I live in Elon with my husband, Jim, and our three children, William, Thomas and Emma Kate. I grew up in Johnston County, which is just east of Raleigh, and I am a graduate of UNC-CH. I moved to Burlington 14 years ago, and have attended FSUMC since that time. My husband is a native of Burlington and has attended FSUMC his whole life.

I have been affiliated with Front Street Playschool for the last eight years. My oldest two children have graduated from playschool and my daughter is currently enrolled in one of the MWF 3 year old classes. I have served on the Parent Board for the last 8 years, have substituted for all age groups for the last 2 years, and most recently served as the Teaching Assistant in the 2 year old Friday Playgroup from February 2011-May 2011. I am currently the Teaching Assistant in one of the MWF four year old classes. I am very excited to be working with Miss Jill (Fisher) this year as we help prepare your children for kindergarten. I am a strong believer in teaching and learning through play and am looking forward to exploring new ideas and concepts with your children. I love science, and hope to do some age appropriate science experiments in our classroom this year.

In my spare time I love to spend time with my family. I enjoy fishing, reading, going to the movies and museums. I have recently taken up a discipline of martial arts known as Hapkido. I love children and consider my own children my greatest accomplishments in life.

I am looking forward to another great year at Front Street.

Betty Huneycutt

(Miss Betty teaches four year olds on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.)

My name is Betty Huneycutt, and I am a teacher in one of the 3 day four year old classes at Front Street Playschool. I was born in the small town of Badin, NC and lived there until leaving for college. I attended Montreat Anderson College for 2 years and then transferred to East Carolina College (University now). I majored in Special Education and taught mentally challenged children in the Durham County School System. When our first son was born I left teaching to be a stay at home mom. Shortly after son #1 was born, son #2 came along, and then son #3! I loved being home with our sons through their preschool years, and have always credited my husband for that privilege.

When we moved to Burlington in 1980, we joined Front Street UMC. Two of our sons attended Front Street Playschool, and we loved the program, the staff and their objectives. As our youngest son entered kindergarten, I was offered a position on the Playschool staff. The rest, as they say, is history, twenty-six years worth! My life, and the life of my family has been tremendously blessed through these many years by the children, families and wonderful people I have been honored to work along side. Currently, I am teaching the fours with Tammy Woody. It is a joy and a privilege to work with her, the special and precious children in our program, their families and a loving/supportive staff of friends!

(Miss Tammy assists Betty Huneycutt in the Monday/Wednesday/Friday threes.)

My name is Tammy Woody. I was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. I have three brothers and one sister. I am married to Keith Woody, and have been married for 12 years. We have two boys, Austin, who is 11, and Chase, who is 8. We have three dogs, AC, Zuse and Xena. I worked for Labcorp for three years until my first child was born; then I became a stay at home mom. Both of my children went through the Front Street Playschool program. We became a part of Front Street in 2002 and I just couldn't leave! So, I started working at Front Street in 2008. Best decision I've ever made! I consider myself as being fair and fun, and I love to read and sing to the children. Miss Betty and I are a great team! I thank God for Front Street Playschool every day!
